A few weeks ago I was at a local Amish Mennonite church. During Sunday School my teacher said that global warming is biggest threat facing our generation. After Sunday School was the sermon and the preacher also alluded to global warming: not as a lie or a theory, but as a fact.
After church I put on my thick winter coat and walked out into the frigid March air. I gritted my teeth as I walked to my truck, thinking about what I'd heard. A grim reality hit me. The media has pushed and pushed global warming down our throats so now we all believe it's happening. Not once, but twice in one day I heard it in church. And not just any church, an Amish Mennonite Church!!
During the last few weeks I've become more irritated by the global warming rhetoric. Al Gore is a hero, paraded before congress to spew off propaganda. He's lauded in Hollywood because he's bringing out the truth. Is this the same Al Gore who made a mockery of our election process 6 years ago when he refused to admit defeat in the Presidential election? Is this the same Al Gore who'se house uses 20 times more electricity than the average house?
I've also become irritated because it's cold. Temperatures across the Northeast are well below normal. Ball games are being snowed out. The other morning it was 26 degrees. Where is the global warming?
Al Gore and his buddies claim the earth is warming due to an increase of green house gasses caused by Carbon Dioxide which is released by cars, machines etc. In fact the largest producer of CO2 is human beings. When we breathe we take in Oxygen and emit Carbon Dioxide.
According to Al Gore's website,
www.aninconvenienttruth.co.uk/, global warming is responsible for an increase in hurricanes, spread of malaria, and animals are moving closer to the poles. In the future, deaths from global warming will double to 300,000, sea levels will rise 20 feet, and the Artic ice cap will melt. We are clearly doomed. I'm not sure how he estimates that 150,000 people a year are dying from global warming.
Main stream media outlets and most scientists write story after story warning of global warming and our impending doom. Most people I talk to believe it's happening, it's our fault, and we need to do something about it. Or do we?
There's several things about global warming you should know before you believe it to be fact.
1. The same scientists who stand by global warming now, advocated an ice age during the 1970s. Temperatures dropped for a few years but eventually rose again. The ice age never came.
2. Actual rise in temperatures is small. Scientists have only recorded temperatures back to the 1880s. Here's a graph showing how much average temperature has risen. It is from NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (
www.giss.nasa.gov).

As you can see, avg. temperature has risen only 1 C in 120 years. The earth's temperature is dependant on a lot of things. Through the centuries it has risen and fallen due to natural causes such as volcanoes. Unfortunately no one was smart enough to document temperatures in the old days. I was amazed when I saw this graph. Due to the amount of coverage given to global warming, I thought temperatures would have risen much more than 1 C in 120 years.
3. We should also be wary of scientists who predict global warming. They are getting paid by someone to do research and if they say there's no problem, why continue funding the research?
4. The last reason not to believe global warming is that the same scientists who tell us it's happening, also say the world was formed by evolution in 500 billion years. We know that's not true.
The world is a strange place. Civilizations come and go in the blink of an eye. Temperatures rise and fall. Glaciers melt and species die out. Do we really think we can end the cycle? I don't think God would let man destroy Earth. I think we need to be good stewards of our land but Global warming is a hoax, I'm sick of hearing about it and people need to educate themselves before they go around saying we're doomed. 4/13/07
