A Leola woman was left stranded in her upstairs bedroom after she attempted to change the lock on her door. According to a neighbor lady, the woman had just moved into a new apartment near Leola when she decided the locks needed to be changed. So she bought new locks and tried to put them in. However, her inexpertise in lock changing was brought to the forefront when she somehow locked herself in the upstairs bedroom. After several minutes of pushing and banging on the door she did what any locked up person might do. She started yelling for help. She yelled and yelled and no help came.
About a quarter mile away an Amish Mennonite family was enjoying an evening outdoors. Their cousins from
Finally everyone shut up and listened. To their amazement they too could hear cries in the distance. This excited everyone. Several boys jumped on a 4 wheeler and drove down the road looking for someone in distress. 13 other people ran through the woods to the neighbor’s house where they were amazed to see a woman hanging from a 2nd story window. The woman yelled hoarsely, “Please help me.”
One man offered to come inside and let her out, but the woman insisted she wanted to climb down a ladder which lay nearby. So the man got the ladder and helped the woman down.
She thanked everyone for helping and the helpers tried not to laugh at her. A few girls snickered. The woman then said, “Please don’t tell anyone about this.” Everyone agreed not to tell anyone but of course they told a lot of people.
They all went home and had a good laugh and the woman (whose name is being withheld so she doesn’t sue us) went to lock changing school.
